        Brief Description 



       Lumbia tree as local name   Sago - Metroxylon sagu Rottb.  has been described  as oldest foodplant  (Ave 1977) .  The "sago" palm grows in marshy areas in the Southern part of the Philippines . It is abundant along the coastal ares in the Visayas and Mindanao.  It matures 12-15 years .  It grows to about 30 feet  high and 3 feet wide diameter . (Flores 2009) brackish water.  Mindanaoans survived by eating sago during the World War II.  In barangay Banza Butuan City , the Sago Palm which is used to make Unaw is popularly  known as lumbia.

      It has been useful  for the Butuanon  for the past generation, though people today are making use of ready made wares that’s why Lumbia was erased in the minds of the people living in Butuan. Now, in an associative ways we are now making use of Lumbia as the main source of livelihood but remember it is not just for the livelihood of the Palagsing makers but as the source of food production. Don’t you know that?

        Lumbia itself can be made of unaw. Unaw is the starch  made from the inner part of the Lumbia, there are many useful credits of Unaw it can be made into a delicacy which is the delicacy of the Butuanon called   ‘Palagsing.’
